8th October 2025
The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 has introduced significant reforms to strengthen the integrity of the UK’s corporate register. A key element of these reforms is the requirement for mandatory identity verification for certain individuals connected to companies.
From 18 November 2025, Companies House will not accept appointments or filings unless the relevant individuals have successfully completed these checks. This marks a new era of corporate transparency and places a clear responsibility on directors, People with Significant Control (PSCs), and those filing on behalf of companies to ensure compliance.
Who Must Complete Verification?
The following individuals will be required to undergo identity verification:
- Directors – before they can act in their role.
- People with Significant Control (PSCs) – before their details can be entered onto the public register.
- Relevant Filers – those authorised to file information on behalf of a company.
Failure to complete verification may result in appointments being invalid, restrictions on company filings, and potential regulatory consequences.
How Verification Works
There are two routes available:
- Direct verification with Companies House – Individuals submit their documents directly through the Companies House system.
- Verification via an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) – An ACSP can carry out the verification on your behalf and confirm to Companies House that the process is complete.
